English Writing for Audit Department

Advanced English Programmer

(16 acad. hours)

The Programmer is aimed at better mastering the most common English difficulties met with by Russian-speaking students in composing official documents and other written matters in English. It has been scheduled to the 16-hour practical training course with elements of applicative (rather than theoretical) grammar, phraseology and stylistics. The entire teaching material is thus divided into eight 2-hour lecture pairs intended for two full learning days.

Admitting the fact that nearly all the students are supposed to be almost fluent in spoken English, the main problem appears to become the concentration on the integrity of English grammar on the one hand, and dividing it into various topics, on the other. According to this, every pair of course lectures has been planned as a separate unit including appropriate materials, as uniform as possible, from the following thematic items: – grammar, – functions, – cohesion, – organization, – tone. Each division thereof is accompanied with current vocabulary enrichment and punctuation training (all with respective exercises). A certain part of every lesson is assigned for analyzing and correcting the textual mistakes, both made by the students during the lecture and suggested by the teacher as typical patterns.
